Matsuura Railway Co., Ltd.
This 93.8-kilometer line runs from Arita Station in Saga Prefecture to Sasebo City in Nagasaki Prefecture. The line takes passengers to tourist spots such as Hirado City, which prospered as Japan's first Western trading port, Arita Town in Saga Prefecture, known as the home of ceramics, and Imari City. The line was converted from the Matsuura Line of Japan Railways/JR Kyushu, which opened at the end of World War II as a coal transportation line, and has a long history. The entire line runs parallel to the national highway and competes with local buses. The line runs through a variety of areas, including residential areas, along the coast, and in the mountains.
