Wakasa Railway Co., Ltd.

Wakasa Railway Co., Ltd.

Wakasa Railway is a small railroad with an operating distance of 19.2 kilometers between Yazucho and Wakasakura-cho, located in eastern Tottori Prefecture. In 1987, it was taken over and opened by the third-sector Wakasa Railway. The sightseeing train, with a completely redesigned interior by Eiji Mitooka, runs along the railway line, which is rich in natural scenery. The trains also play an important role as public transportation for local commuters and local residents. In 2009, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism approved the Railway Business Restructuring Implementation Plan based on the Act for Revitalization of Regional Public Transport, the first "publicly owned and privatized" plan in Japan, and the plan is currently in effect.
